Hi,

I recently purchased 6 new Itanium servers and I'm looking for kernel tuning tips.

I see that memory utilization is high ... up to 70% & 80% just during the build stage. I have 2GB in the server at the moment.

Any tips welcome

regards,
Shane

Can you tell us what models of the Integrity servers you have?
Where do you see the memory utilization stats?
What OS version you have and patch level?

Hi Shane,

This downloadable pdf is great for a quick guide to perfomance on HP-UX. On 11.23 a lot of the parameters are dynamic, which removes a lot of hardwork.

http://h21007.www2.hp.com/portal/download/files/unprot/devresource/Docs/TechPapers/UXPerfCookBook.pdf

If you want to really get serious, then HP do a book on performance tuning, though I don't know if it is still published. The ISBN is 0131027166, Publisher - Prentice Hall

hope that helps

Mike.

Glance is likely going to be telling you that much of thge memory utilization is buffer cache, which I suspect one or more of the pointers given thusfar will tell you your to tune. By default, HP-UX 11.23 will use up to 50% of the RAM for filesystem buffer cache.
