RAID Controller for RX2600

Hey, guys. I Recently purchased an RX2600 runnig HP-UX, and a Disk System 2300. I need to have this system run RAID 5. The controller I thought would work, 283552-B21, will not run with Unix. Which RAID controller can I get that will allow me to run RAID 5 on Unix?? Thanks!!!

Only choose parts listed here:

You don't have to buy them there, but you can get an idea of the specifications and not end up with anything that won't work.

Any SCSI controller listed on partsurfer will with enough disks hung off it be able to do raid 5.

You can also by storage arrays like the 12H or connect to fiber arrays doing the same kind of raid.

Hi Adam,

I believe you need the RAID 4si controller - A5856A - for this.

Unfortunately I can't seem to get a search in hp.com/storage to work to get a spec page, but here's some info

You are correct that the SmartArray 5302 is not supported with HP-UX. A5856A (and the newer A7143A) are only supported on PA-RISC servers.

For rx2600, the SmartArray 6402 will be available next month. It can be ordered as the A9890A.

Note that the SmartArray RAID controllers cannot be paired with the DS2300. The supported storage is the MSA30.

Thanks. The Hp configurator does lead one to believe that the rx2600 is already RAID compatible. Is gives you the option, when configuring external storage to select RAID% with the DS2300, and automatically ups your disk space to account for the Raid configuration. Why does it suggest the DS2300 and list the RAID option, up your raw disk space, and even list "RAID 5" in the "System Summary"? if it cannot run RAID?

Perhaps. Last question then; I am familiar with HP MirrorDisk Ux Software, will that work in my case? With the rx2600 & DS2300?

Yes, the MirrorDiskUX works fine with RX2600 running HPUX 11i V2 and DS2300.
