Hi all,

Would like to find out whether Windows Server 2003 64-bit can be installed directly on the Integrity rx2660 server?

Otherwise, can it be run as a virtualized OS on HPUX?

Here is the list:

HP-UX 11i v2 and v3 with HP Virtual Server Environment (choice of Mission-Critical, Enterprise, Technical Computing, or Foundation Operating Environment);
MicrosoftÂ® WindowsÂ® Server 2003, Enterprise and Datacenter Editions;
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
OpenVMS v8.3 (choice of Mission Critical, Enterprise, or Foundation Operating Environment)

You can run hp-ux, linux and windows also inside a HPVM guest.

While it is implicit in HP-UX, for the other OSes listed previously, remember you want the _ia64_ versions, not x86_64/AMD64/EMT64/whatnot.

Yes and Yes.

IA_64 Windows can be installed directly onto the rx2660 and can be installed as a virtual OS but only with HP-UX 11iv3 and the extra licenses for virtual servers.

Access to the console for IA_64 windows can be tricky using virtualisation.

Thanks for all the helpful response. Real useful.

Now if I am going to install Windows 2003 IA64 on the integrity server, has anyone tried running VPC 2007 or Virtual Server on the Windows OS? So that I can install multiple Windows guest OSes.

From my understanding, VPC/VS can only run on Intel platform.

PC 2007 does not run on 64 bit Windows/Itanium :

Neither does virtual server

Virtual server also runs on AMD.

The way to run multiple Windows OS's on an rx2660 is to use HP-UX 11iv3 and use the virtual server layer from HP-UX.

I would pose the question why....

This will explain it all, although in marketing speak.

You do not need the full VSE (Virtual Server Env) only the engine.HP Integrity virtual machine. This is a SW license on top of HP-UX.

An answer to why will enable me to explain what can/could/should be done.
