HI Mak,

If it has HW mirroring you will find IR Volume in ioscan. Also you can verify the RAID configuration using the command

# sasmgr get_info -D /dev/sasd0 -q raid

It will give the details of RIAD Volume if the RAID is configured.

Khanna

HI All,

We have one system model rx2660 and i had done software mirroring of its 2 internal SAS hard disk drives(vg00 = 2 disk) on my own and during one activity i have broken the mirroring by removing the alt disk and booted the system with primary successfully and finally started the activity but due to failure ,i reverted the system back to the alt disk and removed the primary boot disk out.
Now i want to resync removed primary disk and my doubt is that how to check that it was hard mirrored or software mirrored because someone told me that rx2660 has onboard SAS card and if i will simply insert the disk then it will auctomatically resync from alt to primary disk.Is it true??
Please share your solutions.

Regards
MAK
This server can do either LVM or SAS controller based mirroring. IMHO the hardware mirror is better.

If you see "IR Volume" in ioscan, it is a hardware mirror.

Hi Mak,

When installing the OS on this server, you have two options to configure RAID1 (mirror);

-1- Use the internal SAS RAID controller (hardware RAID1)

-2- Use LVM (MirrorUX) to setup a software RAID1 set.

You have used the software option, then you need to use the the software commands to sync your copies of the RAID set (LVM commands).

Have a look at this document.

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad_WP.pdf

Regards,
Robert-Jan

Hi Frnzs,

Thanks for reply ,it is software mirrored as confirmed from ouput of ioscan in this output i have not found anything like IR volume .
Also i just inserted the disk back into the slot and then did the ioscan -fn to make the disk detected by the system then vgsync and then monitored it.

And finally it got synced with earlier disk successfully.

Thanks for reply
Regards
MAK
