Rick / Sameer - Thank you for your response. My apologies as I failed to mention that the OS is VMS 8.3-1H1. Sameer, I see your link was for HP/UNIX, do you know of a similar link / command for the VMS OS?

Can the MAC Address on one of the two (non-console) Lan ports be changed? We have a new Itanium server talking directly to PLC's and the PLC's have a MAC address defined on our old Alpha that we cannot change. If we can change the MAC on one of the LAN ports of the Itanium server our problem goes away :)

The pre-programmed or rather factory programmed MAC address which resides in the NIC's ROM can't be changed since it's unique.

However one can set a logical MAC address which is referred as Ethernet station address in the respective network configuration file. The following link provides more details about achieving it.

http://docs.hp.com/en/J5683-90017/ch03s01.html#bgebbhig

The above change may work in your environment as long as the PLC interface doesn't get the MAC address directly from the NIC's ROM.

Nice flexibility in those PLCs (what is a PLC anyway?-). Whether/how one overrides the MAC burned into the ROM for the NIC will depend on the OS in use.

CNB - Thank you, however it appears that article is only describing how to view the MAC address as opposed to how to change it.

I am pre-merger HP so have nearly zip experience with VMS but a google search for "vms change ethernet address site:hp.com" did find this:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/731final/4477/4477pro_015.html

which has a table with an entry called "Change a satellite's LAN hardware address" It might not be the fish you seek, but perhaps it will help you catch others.
