Hi,

connect with the serial cable to your system.

There are various methods for console configurations:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12142_div/12142_div.HTML

Regards,
Bhadresh

Hi.

I have a HP Integrity rx1620, installed with OS HP.UX 11.23. The server has been moved recently from one data center to another. So, we unplugged all the cables and everything. When we plug the server into a rack in the new place, we found something wrong with it (it was working ok before we unplugged everything and moved it).

The server is connected to a LCD monitor, and USB keyboard and mouse. When we boot it up, it just shows a blinking cursor on the top left corner of the screen.

We tried to connect through a serial connection, but no luck.

Question:
1. Does this server requires special serial cable?
2. The other servers, which happens to be HP Proliant with Windows, are OK. only the one with HP.UX has this symptom. Is he OS damaged?

You should see an output after power on on all output devices (serial+VGA) until the kernel loads. Then you get the output on the configured console only.

Any start up messages visible?

You need a null modem cable for serial connection.

No visible messages, just the blinking cursor on the top left corner :(. (This is visible when I hooked up the LCD to the server).

Connecting LCD on to the server should be pretty straight-forward, right?

Yes.
Did you power cycle the server after connecting the screen? Maybe it's currently on serial console, so you see only POST messages on your screen.

Yes, I reboot the server, by pressing the power button and holding it for several seconds. The server boots up again, and still I got the cursor blinking display. I did this several time.
