What is benefits of
HPUX on a rx2800 2 quad core 32 Go ram
vs
REDHAT on a server with 2 Intel Xeon E5506 quad core and 32 Go ram.

80 gpao user's with one databse oaracle 10gR2.

Hi!
If you don't know, which on to use - use x86. At least, it's cheaper. In all cases, rx2800 has no RAS features typical for other Itanium systems, so, if you're not going to use it like test system (with something big in production) - x86 will be enough.

Hi,

The rx2800 system with Itanium processor has better diagnosability than x86 system. For eg. if a DIMM fails on the x86 system its a crapshoot trying to figure out which DIMM it is..the rx2800 firmware is way smarter and more mature than that..

you can also do stufflike offline a cpu easily/reliabily on rx2800 and you just cant do that with linux/x86 easily or reliably

as for OS the HP-UX system is better supported and integrated than Linux. I am not sayin that Linux wont work but its harder to take care of it over the long haul. There are more pieces of code from different vendors in your OS stack and they all may not be well tested to work together.. this can make SA life suck at times but if you guess right or pick something very -mainstream- it will work as long as you don't touch it..

also for the rx2800 itanium system oracle charges more per cpu core (1.0 vs 0.5 on x86) however oracle respects the core limiting technology in HP-UX (capped hpvm's or capped secure resource partitions) so this can save you money if you dont need all the cores for oracle and plan on running other workloads on the server. in x86 world unless you want to run the oracle hypervisor(OVM) on x86 you are payin for every single core in that box so things can get expensive..
