I have a rx2600 server. I want to install the hp-ux in this server. I have connected with null cable modem to the serial console with hyperterminal: 9600 none 8 1 none. I see only stange character somewhere "efi" somewhere "shell>". Does anybody know something about that?

Check your setting. Should be as follows.

1. Bits persecond-- 9600
2. Data Bits -- 8
3. Parity -- none
4. Stop bits -- 1
5. Flow Control -- none or Hardware
Dritan,
If you are seeing this kind of output it usually means that you have the wrong speed. What I usually do is disconnect and then change the speed to the next higher "standard" speed and test them one at a time. If the "standard" speeds don't work then I try each speed one at a time until I hit the setting. By standard I mean, 9600, 19200, 57600, and 115200.

Glenn

if you are seeing anything readable, then it is likely a parity issue. Once, odd parity worked for me. Not sure what made it go off the default, but try different parity settings.
