RX6600 - SAS P400 controller

Hi,

My customer has the following configuration :
- rx6600 with 16 SAS internal disks.HPUX 11.31
He plans to use RAID 5 , so the SAS P400 controller has been choosen.
The question is : is it possible to manage the 16 internal SAS disks with the SAS P400 controller.

You need 2 P400 controllers to support 16 disks. Look in the rx6600 quick specs for more details under the "Standard features" section.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Normally, we have two connectors on the SAS P400 controller.
Does that mean , we only connect the 8 first disks to the connector of the 1st controller, and the 8 last disks to the connector of the 2nd controller.

Each connector on the P400 can handle 4 disks, so 8 disks are connected on one P400 and 8 disks on the other. If you order these factory installed, you do not have to worry about wiring and wires.

And just to be sure - you/your customer have ordered an rx6600 with the combo PCIe/PCI-X I/O backplane right?

HI,

Yes I think that we will need two P400 controller. But the problem, is , when I read the documentation, the SAS disks are connected through only 2 cables, and on each P400 controller we have two ports where thes 2 cables can be connected. So, the question is :
how to connect the 16 disks with only 2 cables. I think that we need in this case 4 cables.

In the rx6600 each group of 4 disks are connected to 1 cable - so you have 4 cables for all 16 disks.

cable 1A/B are the upper 8 disks
cable 2A/B the lower 8 disks
