Hi all, I m having difficulties connecting to the Internet from my Virtual P
C. The host PC is WinXP and I have Win 3k installed in the virtual PC.

I have a wireless connection. This is what I have done so far.
1 on the console of the virtual PC I choose the shared Networking (NAT) opti
on

2. On the host PC Support for Virtual Machine Service is enabled. And the co
nnection is shared.

3. When I check the TCP/IP info on the virtual PC. I have the following conf
iguration

IP Add: 192.168.131.35

Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Default gw: 192.168.131.254
DNS Server: 192.168.1.1

I cannot connect to the internet. Any help will be highly appreciated

hey black,

Windows 3000?
Are you living in the furture?

Anyways, Does the host PC got the same IP as the Virtual PC, if so there is an conflict between these two. When it is not, try to ping your DNS server (192.168.0.1) from the Virtual PC to see if you get an response that you can reach your DNS server. If not try to use the IP address of itrc.hp.com instead to see if you got internet at all :)

Thanks for the reply. lol Windows 2003 not Win3000, Windows 3000 is not released yet but soon. Anyway let's get back to the subject matter. The host PC is on 192.168.1.xx network as you can see from the default gw of the Virtual PC. I really need to get the virtual PC on the Internet. Any input will be highly appreciated

Hi, black.
If your IP is 192.168.131.xxx & Netmask is 255.255.255.0, I don't think you'll see the dns srv 192.168.1.1.
Try widening the mask to 255.255.0.0.
Does this help?

Regards, Helge Asmus.

Hi Helge, thanks for the reply. I have changed the netmask to 255.255.0.0 but the problem remains. I can ping the DNS Server of 192.168.1.1 but the defalt gw address was automatically set to 192.168.135.254 I m using a wireless router I do not know if has something to do with security. I have disable built-in firewall in WinXP that does not help either.

Did the Virtual PC chose that configuration or did you do it yourself? What happens if you change the IP of the Virtual PC to 192.168.1.18 (Assuming .18 is an free IP address)

Ok, what if you change your def. gw. from the Virtual PC to 192.168.1.1?

Second you can do is to test your shared connection on the Virtual PC by using the 'ping europe.itrc.hp.com' and 'ping 192.6.72.67' do you get an response on one of the ping commands?

Third (assuming you are using an DHCP server.) change the profile of the Virtual PC on the DHCP server and change the def. gw. to 192.168.1.1

Roderik.

Thanks for the reply, I now have a solution to the problem. I now use the integrated Ethernet card on the Laptop. The problem was the USB wireless card. I hook up the TP cable anytime I want to use the Virtual PC. The moment I use the Integrated Ethernet the IP address was 192.168.1.25 and I could connect to the internet without problem.

Thanks you all for your suggestions
