RX5670 SNMP Memory Leak

We have a RX5670 Running Windows 2003 (64-Bit) with all of the latest patches installed.

After installing the HP Agents (Version 1.4.1), the SNMP agent appears to start consuming all available memory.

Any suggestions?

Sorry this isn't more helpful. I seem to recall reading that new agents were to be available in Jan 2004, but right nowI can't find the link.

Many thanks for the information.

We are using the Madison 1.5Ghz procs. with 6MB Cache, so we shouldn't be hit with proc issue with the early Itanium II's.

I will double check to ensure the firmware is updated on the system and I look forward to trying out the next release of your agents.

As of now, I have to remove the agents from the system in order for it to function properly. Or restart the SNMP service periodically to recapture the RAM. Not the best solution, but it's all I can do for now.

Hello John,

The HP Agents 1.4.1 have a memory leak in the HP Nic Agent which runs under SNMP as an Extension Agent (hpnicagt.dll).

The HP entity that owns responsibility for the HP Agents has been alerted to, and has acknowledged the problem so a fix will be made shortly. I am afraid I don't know timeframes for the fix currently.

To workaround the memory leak is quite trivial. You can go to the Agents Setup (All Programs --> HP Server Agents) and run the setup program which will launch installshield.

At this point you should have the option to Modify, Repair or Remove the installation. If you select modify you will get a list of Agents installed on the Server, and one will be labelled "NIC Agent". This one needs to be deselected, and you can then continue.

At the end of the modify program, SNMP will be restarted in order to load the appropriate Extension Agents, and at this point it should stop leaking, and since it is a new process will have a much more suitable memory footprint.

Please note this problem will be encountered in RX2600 and RX5670 servers.

I'll reply to this message again when a new release of agents with the fix is released to the web.

That appears to have corrected the Memory Leak I was having.
