PAE and HP reported performance hit

I've got Exchange 2003 servers (win2k3 SP1) reporting 3.5 GB of RAM. I'm assuming it's because PAE has not been turned on as stated in HP's advisory:

The advisory mentions that there is a performance hit. Anyone know what this is?

Bottom line: PAE switch CAN affect performance, but all recomendations say: use PAE switch.
Furtermore, PAE switch is enable by default in windows 2003 sp1 (all editions) if CPU support DEP.
