Insight Manager is Displaying the wrong statistics for the Percent of free disk space.
Used Space = 201163 MB
Unused Space = 7214 MB
Total Space = 208377 MB

It calcuates free space at 16%.
It should say 3% free space.
I have my tresholds set to 85% Warning and 95% Critical. So I am not getting free space alert.

Please advise,
Doug
It's just a guess... but...

Are these Oracle Temp space tablespace files by chance? Maybe sparse data files?

If so, then this is explained by the difference in the space used in a file per a "du" command and a "bdf" command. This is how Oracle Temp files (for example) works. If that is the file type, then I'm not surprised by the numbers you're seeing.

But, could be just a bug too...

>It calcuates free space at 16%.
>It should say 3% free space.

Why you say it should say 3%
How do you calculate?

If you are using a bdf output then ,at times, you can't rely on it. You have to use a du and find the result.

Also there is a possibility of open files which you can find with lsof command.

Please elaborate your actual issues.

Regards,
Rasheed Tamton.

Sorry, I am in the wrong forum. This is not a Unix box. This is a ML370 running Windows 2003 Server.

I determined the value by:
201163 / 208377 = 96.54 % used space
So I rounded up 100 - 97 = 3% free.

If you can answer this question that would be cool, since the other forums is not being responded to. Can you suggest the best forum to pose this question to?

Thanks,
Doug
Doug:

You could try the latest PSP (Proliant Service Pack) which is V7.60A.
No, compression is not on. The Server is running SQL 2000. All the space is used up mostly by database files.

Oh wait!!!! This server is Windows 2000 SP3 with SQL SP2. This is the only server we have not upgraded and can't. We are running HP Support pack 7.60 for sure though.

We can't put Windows 2000 SP4 and we cannot upgrade SQL because of the applications installed.

Is there a specific patch from MS that may fix this issue? Please don't say Win 2k SP4. (Sorry yet another miss communication).

Roger,
I am having the same problem with the percent space used reporting wrong. I am running HPSIM 5.1. The host is a win2k3 file server with 7.70 agents installed. this server has 2 volumes (c: and f:). when I look at the sm home page, the numbers (used and unused space) are correct. In this case the f: drive shows
total- 752215
Used- 558645
Unused-193570
The "percent space used" slider shows 7%. This is not the only host that I've got this problem with. Any ideas? Thanks Rob

I fixed it by applying version HP support pack 7.80. However, I had to downgrade all the version manager agents to 7.7 and physically delete the file from the Version Manager Repository. Version Manager 7.8 causes a problem of it seeing out of date device drivers for drivers that are not used. Hopefully they fix all this stuff in 7.9, but that means I have to upgrade all the machines again. GRRRRRR... I think I'll wait 6 months.
