Hi,

Has anyone have had this problem?
Updating a HPLJ 4250 postscript driver to the latest version on a Windows 2003 server corrupt the driver and sometimes even the printer port. The spooler stops frequently which I belive is caused by a corrupt printer port(s).
The solution have been to recreate the queues (and eventually the printer port).Have any of you an idea about why this happen?

Ove:

I don't know specifically but I would certainly try the latest printer firmware, software, and driver from here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=412149&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=412144&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005

I would also try W2K3 SP1 (and perhaps SP2).

Make a great day!

Roger

Ove:

That leaves the firmware; have you updated the firmware? It specifically resolves some 4250 PS issues.

Make a great day!

Roger

No firmware have been updated. But thats not the problem here. The problem is within the server(s) because the driver gets corrupted when updating it to the latest release.

I'm seeing this problem too.

W2k3 R2 x64 2-node cluster.

The HP 4350 and 4250 share the same driver download; which i suspect might be part of my problem.

Background:

I was having printing display problems with the pCL driver on a 4350 printer so switched them all to PS driver.

I switched the 4350's first to the PS driver and was fine.

Once I started switchign the 4250PS printers all the printers started having problems.

I noticed the spooler would hiccup and quickly restart. (short enough that it woudnt' trigger a failover).

I'd get messages like, "Unable to read printer propertiers", "Unable to read printer information"

After some research I discovered this note in this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835609/

Would be nice if HP tech suppport monitored their own forums.

Namely:

This problem occurs when you use some third-
party printer drivers. To work around this problem if you use the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 4300 printer with Windows Server 2003, HP technical support recommends that you install the HP LaserJet 4100 driver instead of the LaserJet 4300 driver
