My hp smart array p600 crashed, and we had it change for a new one, I´m worried about the data that is on the hard drives of the array.

the question is: If I create a new logical drive using this two hard drives in RAID 1+0, will the data on the hard drive be lost?

How can I configure the logical drive on the array without loosing data?

Thanks

Hi,

1785 is no logical drives configured.

To keep your data, simply install the new controller and connect the HDD backplane to the controller and boot.

If you change anything in config , the data can be lost...

The raid information is saved on the HDDs, so when you insert them , the controller will recognize the RAID.

Ok, I did like you said but still not getting a logical drive, I called HP Support and they told me that probably the array data on the hard drives is lost or corrupt, is there a way to reconfigure without loosing data?

so you shut down the system, disconnected the cable, took the failed P600 out, inserted the new one, connected the cable, powered on the server and there is no logical drive configured? Or you did something additional?

Yep, That´s what I did!!

At the end I talked to the HP guys and they told me that my logical drive was lost and that there was no copy of it on the hard drives, so I had to reconfigure the whole deal.

It took me like 2 hours to create partitions, reinstall OS, install SQL Server, recover the back ups and set things up.

The HP guys told me that probably was a problem on the controller card or on the firmware.

Anyway, we´re up again, I will share the results when I get them.

Thanks to all.
