There is a MS KB doc regarding this:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;135404

I don't think this error (which is non-critical) is causing your db to crash, it is only a symptom, not the cause.

Also if true network loss is the cause, then consider changing network cables and connecting to other ports on the switch.
(Simplest to test first). Also the nic from the error event could be faulty.

Check also for 100 mbit speed to always use fixed 100mbit/full duplex setting on NIC and switch ports. For 1000mbit select auto on cards and switch ports.

Cheers,
Rune

Network problem?

Five times in 6 days I've found the following in the Event Log:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BROWSER
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8021
User: N/A
Computer: SRV01
Description:
The browser service was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\Srv02 the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{36368D03-7995-4277-A5AB-B1D89479E8DF}.
Browser master: \\Srv02
Network: \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{36368D03-7995-4277-A5AB-B1D89479E8DF}
This event may be caused by a temporary loss of network connectivity. If this message appears again, verify that the server is still connected to the network. The return code is in the Data text box.
Data:
0000: 1f 00 00 00

The server runs Win 2003 Enterprise on a DL580/G2 with 4 processors and 32 GB memory, and 2 external Ethernet adapters. I get the event on both adapters at the same time. No other servers on these segments get any errors. This error makes a database crash! Any idea?

If you can do it, try to connect both ethernet adapters to different switches.

-- Wayfarer

Hope you have it right by now.

See MS article KBRC00007147 and search the knowledge base for <MASTER browser="">.

I am working to understand network slowdowns in a mixed server (NT4/2000/2003) environement. Certain servers exhibit the 'browser' message.</MASTER>
