      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Check the permissions of /dev/tape/tape0&lt;BR /&gt;and /dev/ntape/tape0&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;if they are anything other than&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;crw-rw-rw root system ,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;you need to change them.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Additionally this may seem pedantic but&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;the -C and the -v need to come before -f&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;also if you are backing up root, -C is not a good idea, but if you must then you will be better off using tape0_d1 in the command.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;vdump -0 -C -v -f /dev/tape/tape0_d1 /&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Hope this helps.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;Orrin.</description>

      <description>it sounds the permission of the vdump command is wrong.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Please check:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;  rwxr-x-r-x  bin   bin  /sbin/vdump&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;also check if the correct "vdump" command was run (which vdump). If permission matches, check user "bin" and group "bin" within /etc/passwd and /etc/group&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
