Hi,

I am trying to boot an Alphaserver 8400 which is attached to HSZ70 controller.

I keep getting the message:

"dka0.0.0.4.0 has no media present or is disabled via the RUN/STOP switch"

All disks in the storage array appear at the ">>>" prompt.

Has anyone seen this? Does this mean that the installed OS has been trashed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Connect to your HSZ controller and check the status of your unit.

>> show units full

Check the state:

State:
ONLINE to this controller

Sometimes, after a bad power off, the units are OFFLINE and you must run:

clear <UNIT> lost_data
clear <UNIT> unwritable_data

Or maybe the controller has invalid data on the cache, run:

clear this_controller invalid_cache DESTROY_UNFLUSHED_DATA</UNIT></UNIT>

Hello
First check what Ivan said.
How about more details?
When did it happened?
Did you loose the power for some time?
OS version?
I think that storage is causing the problem. OS may be trashed (because of storage problem), but I would not expect that.
