Maybe, it depends, what is the file?

You can use setld -i to query the files provided by a subset. You can create a script to query all subsets.

You can use rpm -qil to query the files provided by an rpm package.

If was installed from source, no command available.

In Tru64, one raw way to do this is to go to '/usr/.smdb.' directory and then do a grep for the file you are looking for.
