Looking for a device that plugs into a USB in the i2 blade server to move data in the event of a disaster. Anyone knows if this can be done? If so, with what types of supported storage? Thx in advance.

I am using a 1TB USB hard drive with my RX2620 systems and OpenVMS 8.3. It works just like any other disk on the running system. I assume that it would work just as well on a blade server.

If you want to access it when booted from a minimal version of VMS, you will need to make sure the USB$UCM_SERVER process is started. If you boot from a CD (Unless/until HP corrects the distribution CD to support this), you will have to SPAWN a process to run this server.

David Williams

Ian,
The document that you mentioned has the following text describing how to create a bootable flash drive. Can you tell me what OpenVMS 8.4 saveset this is referring to?

David Williams

Foreign Mount the target disk on which the Kit disk has to be created using the following command:
$ MOUNT /FOREIGN DKA0:
Take the back up of the OpenVMS V8.4 saveset onto the target disk using the following command:
$ BACKUP /IMAGE I64V84.BCK /SAVE DKA0:
After the backup is complete, dismount the target disk using:
$ DISMOUNT DKA0

I'm told I64V84.BCK is an image backup of the OpenVMS OE DVD.
