Availability manager 3.1

I just installed AM 3.1 on Alpha system running OpenVMS 8.3, tried to start AM, and received the following error:

I took these steps before I installed AM 3.1

Verified AM version was 2.6 (I did not need to removed this version)
Installed AM 3.1.
Verified the information in AMDS$LOGICALS.COM (LAN adapter LLA0)
Ran $@sys$startup:amds$startup status

Current status of AM/DECamds Data Collector device RMA0:

RMA0: is stopped and is not accepting requests for data
and can not accept a connection from a Data Analyzer
RMA0: is not set to log data requests generating security violations to
OPCOM (AMDS$RM_OPCOM_READ is not set or set to FALSE)
RMA0: is not set to log fixes generating security violations to OPCOM
(AMDS$RM_OPCOM_WRITE is not set or set to FALSE)
RMA0: is using VCI for network communications
RMA0: has not been started with passwords that allow WRITE or CONTROL access

RAN [SYSMGR]$@sys$startup:amds$startup start

%AMDS-I-EXLOGFILE, Executing AMDS$AM_AMDS_SYSTEM:AMDS$LOGICALS.COM

So I decided to remove all AM from the system, version 2.6 and the newly installed version 3.1. Verified the system was clean of these versions. Re-installed version 3.1. Still received same message after the install.

Checked the products (history) on the system and came across the following:

To me this says I still have DEC VMS AMDS V7.3-1A installed on the system. It was not removed when we upgraded to 8.3 and HP AXPVMS AVAIL_MAN_BASE V8.3 was installed.

Should I try to remove DEC VMS AMDS V7.3-1A?

I searched the forums and saw message (Subject: %AMDS-F-OLDRM) regarding AMDS$RMCP.EXE but I have only one.

The installation guide does not mention a reboot is needed so no reboot was done.

Sorry for such a long message, I wanted to give as much information as possible.
(DECamds is not on the system)

Directions or not, you will likely want/need to reboot to reload the kernel pieces of this package.

I was hoping there was a way of unloading the old driver and loading the new driver...

hi,

first remove the kits DEC VMS AMDS v7.3-1A and
HP VMS AVAIL_MAN_COL V3.1 kit from your system and then reboot it.
After this is done install the HP VMS AVAIL_MAN_COL V3.1 kit and start the AM 3.1 data collector with the command:

@SYS$STARTUP:AMDS$STARTUP start

See if the problem still persists.

The installation guide says in paragraph 3.6:

Note
If the installation successfully replaced the Data Collector driver (over a
previous installation), you must reboot the system to use the new driver.

in other words: After installing the collector, you need to reboot to make the collector do its job.

As far as I recall, the same was needed in previous versions of A.M.
