machine rx2660+vms8.3
problem:
after re-power machine, need input time in everytimes when bootup.
but in vms8.3-1h1 os machines don't need input time when bootup.
firmware is ok and matched

Couple of reasons for this problem could be -
1) SYSGEN Parameter SETTIME is set to 1

The following is the help on SETTIME SYSGEN parameter -

SETTIME

SETTIME enables (1) or disables (0) solicitation of the time of
day each time the system is booted. This parameter should usually
be off (0), so that the system sets the time of day at boot time
to the value of the processor time-of-day register. You can reset
the time after the system is up with the DCL command SET TIME
(see the HP OpenVMS DCL Dictionary).

The following command will give its current value
$MC SYSGEN SHOW SETTIME

Check whether it is set to 1 currently. if yes then you can reset it to 0.

2) You need to install the UPDATE kit VMS83I_UPDATE-V0400.ZIPEXE
or onwards.

I would suggest, you check the above options in the order (1), (2) and (3).

For option (2) above, the following command would list the patches installed on the system currently
$PRODUCT SHOW HISTORY

Once you try out the above options, let us know the root cause for the problem.

strangely , if you input 2010 time before, then after bootup, no need input time again.

SETTIME is set to 0 means the Option (1) above is ruled out.

From the output of "$PRODUCT SHOW HISTORY", you have only
VMS83I_UPDATE V1.0 installed.

You can consider installing the VMS83I_UPDATE-V0400 patch (or onwards)
if the problem still persists.

You mean to say that if you set the time corresponding to 2010 year then you
wont get the prompt to enter date and time every time during boot.
However if you set the time corresponding to the 2011 year then you would
always get the prompt to enter date and time every time during boot

This is a very strange behavior indeed.
Once thing this confirms is that its not a hardware problem. Option (3)
is ruled out.

I would recommend you to install the VMS83I_UPDATE-V0400 patch
(or onwards) which has the fix for this problem. This should solve the
problem you are facing.

Yes. Thats correct.
I would suggest you install the latest update patch which is
VMS83I_UPDATE-V1400. The dependency for this is VMS83I_PCSI-V0300.
