Good morning,

We're experiencing what appears to be a connectivity issue between CommVault and our OpenVMS BL870C blade (running 8.4) , which is causing our backups to periodically fail. In order to investigate this isssue further, I have been asked to provide the following feedback but not sure whether I should be using netstat to perform this test or whether a standard $telnet "proxy server" port no would suffice (I'm unfamiliar with netstat command so would be grateful for any feedback you can provide)

"Commvault have asked me to confirm that we can get from the OpenVMS machines to the proxy (%%%%%%%) over the following ports : 0, 443, 8400, 8402, 9401 "

regards

Paul

If i use telnet to perform this the test it shows that there is connectivity to port 8400 but either get connection failures or hangs when attempting to connect to other ports

$ telnet tsuk2cvl01 8400

%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.190.20.28

%TELNET-I-SESSION, Session 01, host tsuk2cvl01, port 8400

TELNET> exitCAPE, Escape character is ^]

%TELNET-S-LCLCLOSED, Local connection close

-TELNET-I-SESSION, Session 01, host tsuk2cvl01, port 8400

$ telnet tsuk2cvl01 8402

%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.190.20.28

%TELNET-E-CONNFAIL, Failed to connect to remote host

-SYSTEM-F-REJECT, connect to network object rejected

$ telnet tsuk2cvl01 9401
%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.190.20.28
Interrupt

$ telnet tsuk2cvl01 8402
%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.190.20.28
%TELNET-E-CONNFAIL, Failed to connect to remote host
-SYSTEM-F-REJECT, connect to network object rejected

Paul,

netstat can only examine port status on the local node.

Is there a firewall between your OpenVMS system and the CommVault proxy ?

Are other systems successfully using those ports on this proxy ?

Volker.
