Following this link http://www.hp.com/education/ will lead to your to HP's educational services. There are other companies on the market which also offer VMS trainings. HP itself has also a certification program available, a link is on the side above.

regards Kalle

The best place to check out what certifications are available is here http://h10017.www1.hp.com/certification/ .

The Certifications for OpenVMS are usually Certified Systems Administrator (CSA) and Certified Systems Engineer (CSE).

Last time I checked the CSA qualification require you to only sit 1 exam.

The CSE required you to sit 2, networking and a more advanced systems management type exam.

I do have some study guides that I knocked up myself when I sat the CSA for OpenVMS version 7 that you are welcome to. I think the CSA and CSE exams are more focused towards OpenVMS version 8 now but the content will be very similar.

These will not provide you with the answers to the questions but may be of use to you when studying.
Welcome to the VMS side. You'll leave kicking and screaming if you stay here for any length of time.

OpenVMS has the best technical documentation for any operating system. See http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/ for the official manuals. There are some third party books, you can find these at http://books.elsevier.com/us//digitalpress/us/subindex.asp?maintarget=&isbn=&country=United+States&srccode=&ref=&subcode=&head=&pdf=&basiccode=&txtSearch=&SearchField=&operator=&order=&community=digitalpress and http://www.openvms.org/pages.php?page=Books

Andy Bustamante
Alphaserver/OpenVMS ASE

A point. In the VMS world I've never heard of anyone actually asking for or requiring
VMS certification. I took the beta tests, they were fun. Then the rules changed.

In the Microsoft arena the certifications
obviously mean a lot, but here, that and a a few dollars will get you a good cup of coffee.

That said, enjoy learning VMS. Perhaps the certification tests will help you focus learning what some group of people thought would be good to know.

Padmanjali,

from me also, Welcome to VMS!

It has always been the policy of the VMS examinations teams that theoretical learning alone should not be sufficient to pass the exams. Hands-on experiences should be (and IS) of more value. On the other hand, with some experience, you will not need to much "fact learning", and the more experienced people should be able to just sit in, and pass. There are, AFAIK, NO "memory dumps" available for VMS exams, and the examination committee is striving to keep it so.

So, get your hands on (any) VMS system, and experiment with what you find in the aforementioned literature.
Before long, you will not only be asking, but also answering questions here!

Proost.

Have one on me.

jpe (Alpha OpenVMS ASE, OpenVMS CSA, OpenVMS CSE)
