Dear all,

How can I confidently get a list of product installed on VMS?

I know product installed from PCSI format kit can be shown by doing a "product show product"

What should I do to retrieve installed products which are installed with vmsinstall utility?

Thanks all.

If you do "license list" if will show you what you have license for. This is not a full list of what is installed on your system as some third party products do not use the VMS licensing scheme.

HTH
Marty
Note that any product that doesn't use the mentioned facilities (SPIA opps PCSI, VMSINSTAL or LMF) will be out of sight. So if you really want to know what has been installed on the system you need to know what to look for with regards to each such product.

So the question is "how confident" do you need to be?

Do you intend to see what is installed on some internal systems company/site or do you need to check your customers system that could have just about anything installed? If the latter you probably have your work cut out for you if need to be very confident..

/ShyGuy

Just a note, the sys$update:vmsinstal.history isn't created on VAXes.

As others have noted, Utilities (e.g. Zip) which may be in use will not feature in any lists.

Doing a directory of Sys$help:*.release_notes may pick up some others.
$sho dev/fi sys$sysdevice will display images open/installed on system pack - this may pick up a few stragglers.

Also examination of the DCLtables (e.g. via the
verb utility) and/or logical nametables and
symbol definitions might pick up some more.
Please note that this behaviour is nothing specific to VMS, you will find the same roundabout ways on Unix and Windows too ;-)
