Mario, Welcome to the HP ITRC forum for OpenVMS... allthough this does nto appear to be an OpenVMS issue, but a system/config issue.

DKB200 is the normal name for the Top (#1) HDD in an rx2620.

It is on the second (B) channel for the built-in scsi controller. This channel is also connected to the rear panel scsi port.

I concur with Steven and John that you likely have poor termination.
Is there anything connected to the rear scsi plug? Remove and try again!

See:

http://docs.hp.com/en/AD117-9003A/ch02s02.html

and...

http://docs.hp.com/en/AD117-9003A/ch01s03.html#chdeggfc

other pics:

http://goldeneggs.spyderbyte.com/geggs/GErx2620x.pdf

Hope this helps some,
Hein van den Heuvel (at gmail dot com)
HvdH Performance Consulting
Is this a faulty disk and if so why do I get 8 devices which refer to that same new fysical drive

Please send feedback to mdhaene1@volvocars.com

Thank you in advance

Best regards,

Mario
I know nothing of the details of an rx2620,
but on other systems, the usual way to get
all the LUNs to appear like this is some
basic SCSI problem, like two devices at the
same SCSI ID, or bad bus termination, or
something else like that. Assuming that the
"B" SCSI adapter is not at ID 2, you seem to
have only one thing (the new disk) on the "B"
bus at ID 2, so, knowing nothing, I'd vote
for bad SCSI bus termination.

Mario,

Having a single drive apparently populate multiple SCSI addresses is a fair indication there is a SCSI configuration error. I've seen similar symptoms on various systems, but given the nature of SCSI ("none of the S's stand for 'standard'"), which particular misconfiguration causes a specific symptom on one system or combination of hardware components is rarely relevant for other configurations.

Is the storage shelf directly connected, or does the system see it through a RAID controller?

If it's directly connected, check for correct bus length and termination, and ensure there are no ID conflicts (your first SHOW DEVICE is good evidence there is not, but you need to check).

If it's a RAID controller, make sure you've configured it correctly. Exactly how you do that depends on the controller.

Hello guys,

Thanks for your response. Meanwhile my hp resident engineer came along and did accomplish to solve the problem

Via shell> info io
it coud be seen that the dkb200 drive was not seen by the system

Then het did the following
fs0:\>devtree
fs0:\>drvcfg -b
Configurable Components
Drv[3E] Ctrl[1B] Lang[eng]
Drv[3E] Ctrl[1C] Lang[eng]
Drv[44] Ctrl[1A] Lang[eng]

fs0:\>drvcfg -s 3E

Then he clicked on ever lsi logi host bus adapter which scanned its devices and afterwards by exiting this the scsi controller restarted itself and the disk was seen.

Thank you HP
