Desmond,

OpenVMS Alpha V8.3 has been around for more than 1 year now. If you buy 'new' Alpha systems, they should have come with the most recent OpenVMS Alpha V8.3 CD ! Talk to whomever you bought those systems from.

The order number for the kit is available in the OpenVMS V8.3 SPD.

Volker.

Does anybody know where I can get the OpenVMS 8.3 medium kit for Alpha? Our company puchase 3 DS25 box and they all came with the OpenVMS 8.2 medium kits only. I asked the HP guy and they could not give me an answer. Or the V8.3 had been announced only but medium kit is not ready?

I think that the secret FTP server still has
kits available, if a home-made CD-R (or two,
or five) would do. Send e-mail to
sms@antinode-org (more or less) for details.
VMS V8.3 has been available for quite some
time. (If _I've_ installed it, it can't be
_very_ new.)

Have you considered calmly but firmly suggesting to the appropriate vendor representative that it might be a whole lot easier for the vendor to get you a current V8.3 distro disk than to come out and retrieve the AlphaServer DS25 boxes?

OpenVMS Alpha V8.3 was released in August 2006; a year ago.

Contract software support customers can download the kits from the HP FTP servers. There should be access information included with the support agreement. But for AlphaServer boxes that have just arrived, I'd want the current disks.

Downloading kits and burning disks isn't difficult -- if you have an OpenVMS system with a CD-R/RW or a DVD+R/RW around -- but it's also a complexity that you should not have to deal with for a newly-acquired server. You should have the right parts.

Here's the part from the QuickSpecs:

QA-MT1AA-H8 OpenVMS Alpha software and online documentation CD-ROM
