topic SSL Enabled FTP Client for OpenVMS in Operating System - OpenVMS

Hello all,

I'm looking for an FTP client for VMS that is capable of using SSL for a secure session. I've done research on this but I have not been able to come across a FTP client with this support. The closest thing to answers were the statements to use sftp or finding someone to port the c-kermit 8.0 ftp module to VMS.

Has anyone ever come across a client that can do this?

Thanks.

Hi,

well, essentially sftp is an ftp client with SSL. There are at least implementations from
Process and hp. I haven't checked yet, but am pretty sure the lastest TCP 5.4 ECO 4 has further improvements for sftp ;-)

Greetings, Martin

But note that on version 7.3 (and lower) with tcp 5.3 nothing workable is available from HP.

V5.4 ECO 4 information is here and there are some useful comments on sftp
ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/layered_products/alpha/DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP_ECO-V0504-154-4.txt
and the patch is available here
ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/layered_products/alpha/DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP_ECO-V0504-154-4.PCSI-DCX_AXPEXE
Martin, thanks for the reply (as well as others). But I'm under the impression that sftp uses SSH instead of SSL as a transport? Is sftp synonymous with using something like WS_FTP Pro and creating a connection type of FTP/Implicit SSL or FTP/SSL (AUTH SSL)?

Thanks,

Kyle

Kyle,

From your Forum Profile:

<QUOTE>
I have assigned points to 8 of 47 responses to my questions.
</QUOTE>

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption â My Question(s)â you will find â questions or topics with unassigned points â Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. â nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before â please do not take offence â none is intended!

Proost.
