Hi Chris,

here are the ones I do use (all without charge)

RBLs: rbl.maps.vix.com, dul.maps.vix.com, relays.orbs.org, bl.spamcop.net
RBLs: cbl.abuseat.org, dnsbl.njabl.org, dnsbl.sorbs.net, sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org

Now, just out of curiosity, this you really want to ask in the OpenVMS forum? I usually see you more in the Linux area.

well most certainly you can ask again in the Linux forum. As to my own experience, having >>any<< RBL lookup in place is the biggest reduction in SPAM, adding more servers just gives incremental improvement.

On VMS, it seems all the RBLS specified in the SMTP.CONFIG are free (at least, I don't pay fees to any of them).

Yet a word of caution.

When setting up anti_SPAM on my (VMS) system, it turned out that one of the RBL's stated in the configuration was down causing no mail to be accepted at all.

Hello Chris,

no you do not to apply if you are doing this for a normal sized system. The RBL works by doing a DNS lookup for the incoming mail on the RBL server. If the address is known to be a spammer it will be resolved and consequently be rejected by your mail program.

If you have a real high mail throughput (> 100000 messages/day), some of the providers prefer to do a zone transfer to a server on your network. If you require this get in conctact with the admins at the RBL providers.
