How did you try and recover?
TPU mail be complaining about a mismatch between the name of the file in the journal and the name of the file specified when recovering.

The name of the file can been seen in the first few lines of the journal file if you dump it.
I was editing mail with TPU when my X was broken down and my ssh session was lost to the Alpha running OpenVMS version 7.3-2.
There is a TPU journal file, but when I try to recover I get "Recovery aborted by journal file inconsistency, journal file closed."
Is there any way to get out the information of the journal file? I'd not care about the last few letters...
Thanks in advance,

Gáspár Erdélyi

The file name I gave was correct.
The command I gave was:

$ EDIT/TPU/RECOVER MAIL_20210C1C_EDIT.TMP

The journal file is MAIL_20210C1C_EDIT_TMP.TPU$JOURNAL.

Gaspar Erdelyi

Did the file change between your first edit and your /recov edit ? If the command can't be replayed you might run into this problem.

Wim
