System configuration:

2 AlphaServer DS20E ( Alpha1 & Alpha2 ) in OpenVMS Cluster V7.3

The user "Xavi" is connected on Alpha1 and send a mail at the user "John" connected on Alpha2.
The problem is: The user John never received a reply like :
New mail on node ALPHA2 from ALPHA::XAVI

However, if the user "John" opens its mail box, it can see the new mesage.

Cordialy,
Dominique
Hello Dominique,

Enter "$ SHOW BROADCAST". You will probably find that MAIL broadcasts have been disable. This will prevent notification of new mail.

Just enter "$ SET BROADCAST=MAIL" and the new mail notifications should start appearing.

Regards,

Ian

Dominique,

Both Ian & Joseph pointed out ONE cause of this phenomenon.

There can be another one.

Check the SYSUAF record of John, the field "Flags" may have a field "Disnewmail", which prevents sending that message.

If may be removed by

SYSUAF> modify JOHN /FLAG=NODISNEWMAIL

hth.

Proost.

Have one on me.

jpe

Thank you very much for your all answers.

For information: The Broacast are enabled on 2 nodes, and there is no flags "Disnewmail" for all users.

So I defined the logical name: mail$system_flags at "7" and test. It's ok.
I have only tested this with one user. Other tests should be done today. I give you a feeback later.
Thank you,
Regards,
dominique
