Hi,
I'm having problem seeing all the files written to a CDROM from Open VMS. The CDROM was written on a PC using a package called ROXIO. The CDROM has been examined using NERO and is a Data CD (Mode 1), 1 Track, Closed, Finalized, ISO 9660, Joliet format disk.
VMS 8.2 was used running on an Alpha DS10 server to read the disk. The device type used was the DQA0: internal CDROM (CRD 8402B) but I have also tried on other Alpha platforms and an Itanium platform running VMS and the same problem occurs.
The VMS "MOUNT/OVER=ID" command was used to mount the disk and a SHOW DEV/FULL indicated the disk was mounted as ISO 9660 format.
A full directory of the disk reports some files as "No such file".
When checked on a PC the file reported as missing is there and can be viewed/edited without problem.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Many thanks in anticipation - Chris.

Shalom,

Mount the cd on a windows box and use sftp or other utilities to get it onto your VMS box.

That's just a suggestion if the media isn't bad.

SEP

Chris,

VMS does not support the Microsoft Joilet extension to ISO 9660 CD format.

Probably this this is the cause of your problem.

Bojan

All,
Many thanks for your suggestions. It looks like the JOLIET file system format is the problem. I will try without this being set.

Many thanks - Chris.
The free CDburnerXP Pro is more reliable than various of the commercial packages, if you're burning disks from Windows boxes. (Various of the commercial packages have some nasty bugs in some of their versions.)

As for OpenVMS, OpenVMS supports only core ISO-9660:1988 standard, and no extensions and no ISO-9660:1999. OpenVMS can also read ODS-2 and ODS-5 disks, and dual-format disks with one of the ODS structures and ISO-9660.

For recording CD and DVD disks for use with OpenVMS, see http://64.223.189.234/node/28 -- that document has information on volume structures, bootable disks, and on using OpenVMS-based recording tools.
Many thanks Hoff - I will have a read of the instructions for creating VMS readable disks. I think the problem is the Joliet extension when the disk is written on the PC.

Problem is caused by Joliet extension to the 9660 structure. Many thanks to all who replied.
