Advanced Server error

Hello,
I try to install advanced server 7.3B on OpenVMS V8.3 but when I execute the $ admin/license, I get the below error -- Unable to communicate with the license server ---.

Does anyone know the fix of this problem?

Ronald,

did you run @PWRK$CONFIG after installing the software?
To use ADMIN/LICEN you should habe enabled a license server during the PWRK$CONFIG phase.
To change values afterwards, you may execute the SYS$MANAGER:PWRK$DEFINE_COMMANDS and run SETINI (with Server shut down).

If you run server based licenses, you don't need to ru ADMIN/LICE.

Id adition to Karl, after every installation/upgrade you must run SYS$UPDATE:PWRK$CONFIG.COM. The licenseserver is only needed if you are running multiple OpenVMS (separated) systems with the same clients. Otherwise it's more complex to maintain.

Hello Ronald,

To expand what Anton said, because it is an important, but sometimes confusing point.

The license server is only needed if you use client based licensing. You only need to use client based licensing if you have clients (desktops) that will need to connect to more than one different Advanced Server system (A VMS cluster is considered to be ONE Advanced Server system).

Otherwise, you should use server based licensing. Server based licensing does NOT use the license server.

Since, I am using a server based licence thus I don't need the $ admin/licence utility of advance server. I need this only if I am using a client based license.
