> [...] I can try to test on my current
> V5.5-2 system (VAX). [...]

I have systems going back to V5.4, but this
code uses C run-time features which, I
suspect, won't be found before V7.0. I'd
guess that it'll work wherever it can be
built, but I'd expect build problems with
older VMS versions. I don't have any systems
where I can easily run VMS V7.x older than
V7.3, so there is some guesswork involved. I
think that I've tried recent cdrtools
versions on my V6.2 system, but had trouble.
Older cdrtools/cdrecord versions are
available for older VMS versions. Many of
the fancy new features are DVD- or
BD-related, so their value is probably not
very great on a VAX (where there's no
large-file support in the C RTL). Does
anyone have a DVD- or BD-writing drive
connected to a VAX?

So, I'm not very interested in trying to do
anything with this product on VMS versions
older than, say, V7.3 (VAX) or V7.3-2
(Alpha). If someone else is more interested
than I, and comes forward with either
harmless code changes or cash, then I might
become more interested.

 There's a VMS-tolerant (source) kit for
cdrtools 3.00 (cdrecord, mkisofs, ...) here:

http://antinode.info/dec/sw/cdrtools.html

Overwhelming demand might lead to a complete
kit with executables for Alpha, IA64, and VAX,
but there are some reasons to build it
yourself. (MMS/MMK, DEC/Compaq/HP C. Probably
doomed on VMS before V7.0. I didn't try
anything older than V7.3 (VAX).) It's not
tested any better than ever, but complaints are
always welcome. (I'm told that it's made at
least one BD-RE on an IA64 system, so what
could go wrong?)

If you have a standard test procedure that I can use to qualify it, I can try to test on my current V5.5-2 system (VAX). I can resurect a V6.x system without too much of a problem. I might even be able to restore a V4.7 system if it would be of value.

Dan
