Brian,

Provided you have the correct PAKGEN PAK, you can generate /OPTION=IA64 PAKs on Alpha by commenting out the line:

DISALLOW generate AND (options.ia64 or options.ppl or options.ia64_alpha or options.ia64_alpha_vax)

in SYS$UPDATE:LMF.CLD

when I add:

/OPTION=(IA64) to my PAKGEN command, I get an error.

Also, I need to do this from an Alpha.

Brian,

I hinted at the answer when you asked this in c.o.v. but you never responded...
Contact me directly and I will tell you how I do it.

Dave
Looks worthy of a formal report.

Assuming this isn't something simple and locally reparable such as a CLD that's skewed across platforms -- and when last I looked there were differences in the CLDs between Alpha and I64 -- this is fodder for a more detailed discussion with HP. Either to get this fixed, or to get clearance to work around this through various means.

Alternatively, I can fire up an OpenVMS I64 box and we can discuss how to generate these PAKs; to set up HL as an ISSUER for the licenses, if that's of interest.

This really looks like an area where something is implemented in a less-than-optimal fashion.
Brian,

The CLD for the license commands on Alpha is
deliberately broken to prevent the generation of IA64 PAKs. Grab a copy of the CLD from an IA64 and do a SET COMMAND on that one before you generate your license on the Alpha.
I have been using this method for a while...

Dave
