I feel I'm a pygmy standing on the shoulders of giants. There are lots of more knowledgable people here. I'm just an active participant.

As I've said before I am active here because I learn a lot reading other peoples answers and trying to answer the questions. I've learnt several things this week already.

Asnother reason I am active here is if I can encourage new people to use VMS more then that is a good thing. The VMS community has to stick together and help each other and especially new people to help combat the FUD spread around by the ignorant. For a good example of this go visit

and see the nonsense being posted in response to a positive article about VMS. Please post some sensible answers.

18x7x16D is the same in hex which is a popular way of expressing numbers on VMS systems.

Just for kicks:

How am I to read that?

Do you want to specify that after 7 years it is to end?

Or have you mixed up 7x24 with 24x365 ?

... and if you want to show the continuous availability of VMS, you need to specify the quarter year that adds up every four years to feb 29....

So we use: 24 x 365,25
