Hello, please do you know a way to get the TCP/IP package v.5.0A ? from the network, can we download it from somewhere? Also Do you know if HP provides a TEST License for 1 user UCX license, so we can use it in Telnet?

Simon,

TCPIP is a commercial product and you can't download it from the net. SPL subscribers (Software Product Library quarterly CDs) can download products since June 2003.

You can find TCPIP V5.0A on the (appropriate) OpenVMS Alpha operating system CD (most likely V7.2) or on CD #1 of the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products CDs (SEP-1999 until DEC-2000) in directory [UCXAXPA050].

The TCPIP V5.0A .PCSI file name is DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP-V0500-11-1.PCSI

You can request a temporary license using the Software Loan Program web site:

The UPI code for TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha is 0LX

You can download PATCHES for older versions of OpenVMS products from the above site or from the HP Sydney CSC site http://ftp.hp.com.au/

Full product kits (even for older versions) are not normally available for download.

are you sure what is your VMS version?
If you have V7.2 you could download tcp/id V5.0 or V5.1 as Volker said.
If you have V7.2-2 it's better you download V5.3.
Before download software let look at your exact VMS version then follow Volker's link.

My version is 7.2-2 , please pardon my ignorance in VMS. I hope i'll catch up with you some day.
Now the question is: from where can I download the TCP/IP v 5.3 ?

o.k., so if you're running V7.2-2, then TCPIP V5.3 would be the most recent version. As already said, you can't download the TCPIP V5.3 kit from the net. The only thing you can download is the TCPIP_ECO kit (V5.3 ECO 4 is current). You have to first install the TCPIP product from CD (you either need an Alpha Layered Products CD set JUN-2002 or later or an Alpha operating system CD - probably V7.3-1).

Did you check, whether TCPIP may not already have been installed (PROD SHOW HIST TCPIP*) ?

However you could find tcp/ip suite onto vms CD-ROM that's more simple to use.

please let me repeat: you cannot download full TCPIP kits from the WEB, only maintenance kits (i.e. patches, ECOs, PCSI product names are: TCPIP_ECO).

PS: If you are a subscriber to the quarterly Layered Product CDs, then you can download full kits (since JUN-2003), as you will get a account/password with your CDs.

You can also find a "courtesy" TCPIP kit on the Operating System distribution disk.

You may find a sales person who will issue you with a loan PAK to trial the product, but that would be somewhat unusual for a product like TCP/IP. Normally you would have purchased some kind of PAK that will enable TCP/IP with your operating system. It could be named UCX, NET-APP-SUP-nnn (where nnn is a number - 150, 200, 250 etc...)

There are competing TCPIP products for OpenVMS, which may provide downloadable kits and maybe trial license PAKs. You'll need to search for them yourself.

since V7.0 of VMS, tcp/ip license pak was included in OpenVms license. AFAIK now it doesn't need register pak in new version of vms.

in vms CD-ROM you can find the right version of tcp/ip.

no, the TCPIP license was never included in the OpenVMS license.

The TCPIP kit is present on the operating system CD and can be installed/upgraded together with OpenVMS, but you still need a separate license.

Just to confirm Volker. Thus far TCPIP Services has never been included in any OpenVMS operating system License or PAK.

For OpenVMS VAX and Alpha, the "base" LMF product names for TCPIP Services are:

UCX-IP-APPL
UCX-IP-CLIENT
UCX-IP-NFS
UCX-IP-RT

These selectively enable different components of TCPIP Services. However,
you're unlikely to see any PAKs for those product names "in the wild". TCPIP Services is most commonly licensed with the group PAK "UCX", which includes all the above UCX-IP-* products.

The UCX group PAK is itself contained in group PAKs

NET-APP-SUP-200
NET-APP-SUP-250
NET-APP-SUP-300
NET-APP-SUP-400

The NET-APP-SUP-150 group PAK contains UCX-IP-CLIENT only.

So, you will need at least one PAK of the names listed above in order to start TCPIP Services for OpenVMS.

Generally speaking, it's been difficult to purchase an OpenVMS Alpha or VAX System without buying a license package that included some variant of the TCPIP Services PAKs, but there were rare exceptions. Perhaps this is what Antonio was thinking of? You still need to REGISTER and LOAD a PAK for TCPIP to work.

The IA64 licensing model defines "Operating Environments". They are "Foundation", "Enterprise" and "Mission Critical", and are like large group PAKs. TCPIP Services is included in all Operating Environments. But note that this licensing model is IA64 ONLY. It's unlikely to ever be backported to Alpha, and definitely not to VAX.
