One small caveat, this only applies to products which either use PCSI or VMSINSTAL. So this covers hp OS/Layered products/patches and <> third party applications.
In case you have stuff on your system with "private" installation procedures the only way to find out is to carefully check system disk/logicals/DCL tables/symbols for clues

SHOW LICENSE may also help for identifying those products that require a License as well as an installed product/patch.

Example: MQ Series, Multinet, TCPIP, and DFS I know require a license to go along with the installed product.

Careful with the show lic approach. Just as a
direct counter example: MQSeries does not require a LMF license (you need paperwork and to pay, but no need to register the license with LMF):

Also there are licenses you need to install to activate a product feature that is already there (like Volshad and Record unit journaling)
