I am getting an error when trying to print from a remote machine to a VMS LPD queue. I've turned up the error reporting level and the log file says:

lpd$printjob.c/1452 st: 98994 msg: record not found

I'm assuming this is trying to access the proxy database.

I get this error whether ot not the /FLAGS=APPLICATION_PROXY is set on the LPD service.

Any clues. I really need print capabilities.

Hi Ian.

I might have been here a long time ago but I could never get registration to accept my password. It says "more than 6 characters, only letters and numbers, at least 1 letter and 1 number). I entered ABCDEFGH12 (for
example). I got error: Your password is not in the correct format. Please choose another Password with a minimum of six characters (A-Z,a-z, and 0-9 only) at least one letter, and at least one number. My password complied but it was too long. Nowhere does it say it has to be 8 characters or less. At least, that's what worked when I pared down the password.

Brian,

ITRC is an original HP thing, long before they knew anything but *UX.
And *UX pw have max 8 length (with AFAIK Tru64 as exception, they MAY be longer, but the extra length is ignored). They do not even consider that anyone would not know...

hth.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Jan

The problem may happen because receiving system does not have the queue in the LPD database

Check file

$ ty TCPIP$LPD_ROOT:[000000]TCPIP$PRINTCAP.DAT
#
# LOCAL PRINTERS
#
TCPIP$LPD_QUEUE:\
:lp=TCPIP$LPD_QUEUE:\
:sd=TCPIP$LPD_SPOOL:
#
PKL|pkl:\
:lp=PKL:\
:sd=/TCPIP$LPD_ROOT/PKL:

whether the receiving queue is defined is there.

_veli
