Hi,
I am using cluster_config to add EV68 (DS25 alpha workstation) as a Satellite node to a common environment cluster. The connection is Ethernet Lan and am using a 8 point Gigabit switch

Now I am running cluster_config on the clustered network and it is asking the following question

Will "XXXX" use Decnet [y]? YES
This procedure will establish ethernet EIA0 for
"YYYYY's" booting of XXXXX via the LANCP boot server process

What is "XXXX" Lan Adapter Address?

There are two ethernet cards ega0
and eia0

On the EV68 (to be Satellite node)
when i did
>>>show ega0_mode
It gave me idea that this is 1000 mbit, full duplex Auto

when I did
>>>show eia0_mode
It gave me idea that this is Twisted pair and 10 bit

Which one should I enter I would prefer to use the Gigabit card address. However, since on the terminal they mentione about EIA0 , I am a bit confused. The current clustered system has 2 nodes

DS25 using 1000 bit card
XP 1000 using 10 bit card

So again for EV68(to be Satellite node) which adapter do I choose.

Please let me know any suggestions you might have.

Thanks in advance

You choose the one you like, I would prefer the gigabit :-).
You enter the MAC address of the ega0 (show config or show device should tell you the address) and you should set the ega0 as the default boot device BOOTDEF_DEV.

mfg Kalle

If I remember correctly, your EGA0 device at console level will magically turn into EWA0: when OpenVMS is running, so don't be surprised.

01/04/2005 20:13
Hello,

Please refer to the attached document. It is a in the RTF format.
The mentioned steps are only suggestions. We are using DECnet-Plus (Phase 5)
therefore the examples/references using DECnet-Plus.
The Local:. is referring to the local DB instead of the DECdns Server etc.
Further when you managed the Cluster Config you must still do a DECnet
Configure on the Satellite as well TCPIP$Configure (depending what kind
of TCP/IP stack is in use)
May even other steps as well => depends on your application.
Do NOT forget the licenses.
Each OpenVMS Satellite needs proper licenses.
- OpenVMS Base License
- OpenVMS User License (ADL)
- a NAS150 License (minimum) (Includes DECnet, TCPIP and other licenses)
or a couple of individual licenses

After you registered the satellite licenses on the server you must assgin it to the new satellite.
LICENSE MODIFY / AUTHORIZATION=ILS.... product name /INCLUDE=(your new satellite)
or do
LICENSE MODIFY / AUTHORIZATION=ILS.... product name /ADD=(your new satellite)

I hope the provided suggestion will help you to accomplish your task.
Kind Regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
I have already run throught cluster_config however I ran into problems while booting the satellite node EV68

The current thread is below
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=847365

At some points the answers in your attachment differ to mine. I am thinking of first doing

"remove cluster"

and then again Add cluster

Please have a look at the above thread. Your suggestions would be very helpful.

Hi Nipun,
Thanks for your reply.
There are many ways pointing to Rome ;-))
I responded to your other threat and this will answer hopefully more.
I have to write a document of how to manage Cluster Satellites (WS), I need it for my colleagues to instruct them. If your matter is not extremly urgent then I will provide you with a copy.
Let me know.
BR Andreas
(Some points appreciated ;-))) )
