Hi Charles,
installation of vms is almost simple: insert vms cd-rom, boot from it and follows instructions.
However ES80 is a very important system so I guess you have to install and/or configure some other software, e.g. tcp/ip. This is a bit more complicated.
The first difference between vms and windows you meet is the interface. Vms is like old msdos (same command are the same e.g. dir, copy o ren).
For a windows guy in my mind the first step is using decwindows interface.
Don't forget help command is your firend.

Antonio Vigliotti
Read the excellent documentation supplied with VMS. The Installation and Upgrade Manual is a step by step guide.

Charles,

Your company has to watch out.
If you are infected with the VMS virus, normaly you never go back to where you came from.
And yes, all I've learned is from HELP. I never got a course for VMS. I started with VMS and later on there came the other OSes. I did get courses for M$ Windows (and a lot of new flavors) difference Unix variants, but never for VMS. Now I'm using it for over 20 years and manage difference systems which never go down. You know, real 99.999999% uptime. And as you can read in the thread 'Uptime', we manage well.

AvR
