Does anyone have editcap or the ability to display Ethernet capture files on OpenVMS Alpha?

Have you tried ethereal?

I think it`s on the OpenVMS freeware CDrom, but can be found here as well...

Hi Cass long time no see.

I'll second Ethereal. It now has clients for Windows as well as Linux and can read VMS capture files created with tcptrace. If you're running a TCPIP 5.4 you can also use tcpdump for capturing network traffic. Ethereal will also read those files, as well as allowing you to sort/select/trace connections and generally know what's going on.

Matt M. from the TCPIP group told me one his guys wrote the code for Ethereal to read tcptrace files. If you're watching the forum I owe you a beer, a pitcher even.

I didn't see a download to run ethereal on OpenVMS. I would like to be able to view packet captures from other sites on my OpenVMS system.

You are correct Cass. It does not look like anybody ported Ethereal to OpenVMS, yet.

I use Ethereal on WindowsXPpro. Works great on my OpenVMS TCPtrace files!

Note that EditCap is part of the ethereal distribution.

There are several ethernet monitoring tools on the OpenVMS freeware CDrom. I`m not sure if they have an EditCap-like viewing ability or not. Here`s the link...

Thanks for the info. There were several ethernet programs for listening to the node's ethernet device but not for displaying other's capture files.
