I decided to kill the old vms V6.2 (sigh). It's time to upgrade.
So I prepared new system with:
PRODUCT                             KIT TYPE
----------------------------------- -----------CPQ AXPVMS ADVANCEDSERVER V7.3-A4 Full LP
CPQ AXPVMS CDSA V2.0-109 Full LP
DEC AXPVMS COBOL V2.8-1286 Full LP
DEC AXPVMS DECNET_OSI V7.3-2 Full LP
DEC AXPVMS OPENVMS V7.3-2           Platform
DEC AXPVMS TCPIP V5.4-15 Full LP
DEC AXPVMS VMS V7.3-2 Oper System
HP AXPVMS KERBEROS V2.0-6 Full LP
----------------------------------- -----------

All licenses are up to date but I haven't got a new PWLMXXXCA07.03 license for A/S V7.3
So after installation of A/S, I enabled use of old license (logical name PWRK$LS_V7_Access_Upgrade = 1 in PWRK$LICENSE_S_START.COM)
Now A/S starts, PC client can acquire a license but can't open a shared directory.

Any idea about this?

Antonio Vigliotti
Uwe,
New V7.3 is PDC and I degraded old V6.2 from PDC to BDC. Both controllers can speack each other.
From PC I can validate all users in domain so I'm sure domain controller is working.
Error? Yes.
LMBROSER crash (I have .DMP file).
After I manually start browser service, it's works fine. However, my trouble is not the browsing (at the moment).
When I try to connect from PC I see "Invalid resource type". A/S logs shows:
31-Aug-2005 10:11:48 CLIENT_LICENSE_INVALID:
Client Id = unavailable,
Client Addr = "PC_ANTONIO      ",
Transport = TCP/IP,
Product = unavailable,
Group = unavailable,
Reason = TSR not running on client
31-Aug-2005 10:11:48 CLIENT_NOT_LICENSED:
Client Id = unavailable,
Client Addr = "PC_ANTONIO      ",
Transport = TCP/IP,
Reason = No Server-Based Licenses Available
A

Antonio Vigliotti
Am I right to assume, that you use and have used server based licences?

If so the logical doesn't help, the client has to request a client based license.

You could ADMIN /LICENSE to assign client based licenses and you should install the licenserequestor on the clients (or acquire an appr. license).

regards Kalle

Karl,
I can't use server based license, because I need PWLMXXXCA07.03 license. Using old license, it's possible merely client license model.
ADMIN/LICENSE show license assigned to PC_ANTONIO, group default. On PC box, I already configured license with PNLCFG and loaded with PNLR32.

Antonio Vigliotti
Antonio,

You need the PWLMXXXCA07.03 license to connect to a share on an AS7.3 server. It doesn't matter whether you are using client or server based licensing.

The PWRK$LS_V7_ACCESS_UPGRADE logical controls the automatic upgrade of your clients licenses to PWLMXXXCA07.03. If the logical is defined, when your client requests an older license, it will automatically be given a PWLMXXXCA07.03 license.

Antonio

Bill Hall nailed it - you absolutely need the -07.03 license rev. If you don't have it, you can not access file shares or printers on the VMS server. It doesn't matter if you are doing client based or server based licensing.

The "upgrade" logical is just a convenience so that customers using client based licenses don't need to visit each client and change them to request the new license. The "upgrade" logical allows the clients to request the older licenses, but get the new one (which they need).

Brad
