Cabletron called it the SmartSwitch Router 510/520/600/710/720

Search the web for "distributed routing software" and "clearvisn router configurator".

What firmware version do you run in the routeabout EWs? Which model are they - access or central?

What is now HP used to have a Digital Networks support archive. Another place to try is VNETEK (the refurbished arm of Digital Networks).

In general I would expect you to have these devices in routing mode for IP and DECnet, then bridge whatever else you absolutely need (eg: LAT), but block everything else. That's not how they come by default - as far as I can remember they come with everything allowed through in bridge mode.

Have you used a LAN analyser (even the Microsoft packet capture tool that comes with SMS) to verify that this is actually the problem?

Good luck, Colin.

Configuring a routeabout EW

I've got a small network across 3 sites, using T1's and routeabout EW's. I have an Alpha Server and Microsoft Server at the main site being accessed from the remote sites. We've been having some problems that Microsoft thinks are the result of the routers forwarding UDP packets on ports 137 + 138. I've been using Clearvisn 2.0 to configure these. Can someone point me in the right direction to block these, either using clearvisn or thru the router command line interface. Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me for configuring this.

You should be able to find the relevant manuals out there on the web (see above for Cabletron info). If not then try here: http://www.dnpg.com/tech_documentation.asp under the "Legacy Products" heading and if that fails then ask here: http://www.digitalnetworks.net/tech_firmware.asp

If all else fails, I know I have a set of EW manuals stored away in a box... haven't used them for quite a while. I managed 2 pairs of EW's with T1's (between Dallas and San Francisco) for a number of years, but they were decommissioned in 2001.

Allan
