Wim,

if the System OK led is blinking, this indicates a non-fatal error. You are supposed to connect a terminal to the console port and power-on the DECserver 700 again to see the associated error message...

Volker.

It's not for the 700 model but the P is in it. "Decserver internal test".

I found another decserver and did a init on both. One displayed d followed by E. This is normal. The other displayed d followed by system ok LED flikkering fast. When I released the button it showed multiple values (also 4) and ended with P.

Wim

Wim, The Network Product Group of DEC is not a company that was spun off from DEC when they were sold to Compaq called Digital Networks (http://www.digitalnetworks.net/default.asp) and they ahve the documentation online for the Decserver 700 at http://downloads.digitalnetworks.net/dr/decserver/decserver-platforms/documentation/dsrvw-mg.pdf
and I believe that it has the list of LED meanings.

Phil

I have lots of DECServer900TM units, and "P" is quite common in the boot sequence. I have a chart, similar to that in the PDF referenced above for the DS700. I have not found an on-line copy and the chart is at work (on vacation now), but you might try looking for an manual of these models. These servers were all very similar, but not equal!. I recall the DS90TL and DS90TM were very close but made by different companies such that the code was not interchangeable, etc. Very confusing since they all had "DIGITAL" on the brand... :(

That previous post was not supposed to go and the forum server didn't respond for a while after my reply. I think I broke it! :)

What I meant to say was I have lots of DECServer900TM units that also display the "P" in the boot sequence. I have found the on-line copy of the LED segment codes for the DS900TM, but I see they also do not have a "P" listed. Maybe the more recent F/W (I am running v2.4 BL50.05) came along and added a step but they never updated their PDF docs...

Here is what I found at the DNPG site:

http://downloads.digitalnetworks.net/dr/decserver/decserver-platforms/documentation/dsrvz-in.pdf

on page 13.

Rick

Based on the missing information for the 900TM, I have asked that the LED information diagnostic output be corrected. With the release of the upcoming DNAS V3.3, there will be a new posted document covering this subject. Thanks, Jon. (Digital Networks)
