What is the difference between DecNet end node and DecNet full function. if I had a multi node system where would I install full function versus DecNet end node?

A decnet end-node is not doing any routing. The full one can.

The three major DECnet licenses are DECnet full function (License PAK: DVNETRTG), DECnet extended function (DVNETEXT) and DECnet end-node (DVNETEND).

DECnet routing allows DECnet routing, and it allows multiple active DECnet links; more than one active out-going connection at a time. Routing also supports a cluster alias. Automatic switch-over on link failure.

DECnet extended (or enhanced) function has enough of routing to allow for a cluster alias. A cluster alias is a single name for a group of nodes in a cluster, and any node in the cluster can field an incoming DECnet connection.

DECnet end-node has one active link, and no routing capabilities. Manual switch-over to another link is required if the link goes down.

The DECnet manuals are probably the best resource for details of this question. The Phase V (DECnet-Plus, DECnet/OSI) manuals are in the documentation set, and the DECnet Phase IV manuals shipped out on a Freeware distro (V5?) a while back.
