Ask your HP reseller or HP rep to check with the HP software supply business, or with the TCP/IP Business Manager within OpenVMS.

I don't know the oldest release that V4.0 would work on. If V4.0 does work on V5.4-3, that version is still "PVS" for V5.5-2 and might well be available (somewhere). V3.3 was the release prior to that, IIRC.

The basic installation instructions haven't changed in next-to-forever, though you'll certainly find things discussed that the older releases don't have. Synopsis: VMSINSTAL the installation kit, and run UCX$CONFIG, and follow the directions.

If feasible for the application, I'd also look to use a "helper" node running a more current version of OpenVMS, and DECnet and TCP/IP Services, and would connect through to the V5.4-3 node through that "helper". That'll likely be the most expedient approach.

I have a November 1990 ConDist CD set which
is contemporary with VMS V5.4, and which
seems to include "VMS/ULTRIX CONNECTION
1.3A". I probably have kits for some newer
versions, too, and, having tried that one
(shudder), I'd advise looking for something
newer. If you get desperate, send some
e-mail to sms@antinode-org (more or less).

You're on your own for the license PAK.

I went to the Australian support page at:

http://ftp.support.compaq.com.au/pub/ecoinfo/ecoinfo/version.htm

and selected the search FTP site and entered UCX. It brought me to the following:

http://ftp.support.compaq.com.au/search.phtml?what=ucx

It appears to have the kits for several versions of UCX (V3.2, V4.2, etc.). You might want to check there.

I can assure you, that UCX V2.0e will work on V5.4-3, installed it ca. 2 years ago an 2 VAXen. I could arrange for a download, but I fear that would not be legal?

regards Kalle

The SPD for TCPIP V2.0 ("July 1992") says

Installing DEC TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS requires the VMS Operat-
ing System.

The installation guide is more definite:
"VMS V5.4 and V5.5", and "Your system must be
running VMS V5.4, or higher."

The kit in the March 1993 ConDist seems to be
V2.0B.

The SPD for TCPIP V3.1 ("May 1994" from the
September 1994 ConDist) says:

To qualify for a software support contract, DEC TCP/IP Services for
OpenVMS requires VMS Operating System V6.0 or later.

It does discuss "VMS V5.x or 6.0 systems",
however, but it's not clear what "x" can be.

The installation guide says "OpenVMS VAX[TM]
Versions 5.5, 6.0, 6.1", so that one may be
too new. (Only one way to find out.)
