The short answer is yes, I could.

But I have two questions: what has happened to your regular method of receiving DCPS software, and do you really need V2.3, which is now out-of-date since V2.4 has been released?

I want to order DCPS 2.3 through my distributor channel in europe , but they garanteed me an delay of at least 3 weeks.

they could not answer If this version of DCPS would work on OPENVMS 7.1-H2 or 7.2

Therefore , I want to try before buy

I contacted HP in Belgium for this problem,
But they have no answer either.

So on the net I found SPD44.15.

MAIN PROBLEM :

printing from DCPS to HP PCL printers;
I want to choose also the input tray.
(document automation on OVMS)

Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think DCPS is now part of OpenVMS, so you shouldn't need to "buy" DCPS.

This I believe happened a year or 2 ago.

The License to use DCPS is included in the Openvms license.

The DCPS kit on media , or the SPL kit has to be bought.

e.g. QA-09NAB-H8.

It is also available for download If you have an paid and registered id

Even though those operating systems are not themselves supported any longer,
DCPS will install and run just fine on them.

It is not possible to select input trays with the INPUT_TRAY parameter for PCL
jobs. This is because DCPS controls printer features with PostScript, and
printers lose all knowledge of the PostScript environment during the time
they're switched to PCL.

You could either embed PCL tray selection sequences in your job, or force the
DCPS PCL translator to translate your PCL job to PostScript. Chapter 7 of the
DCPS User's Guide describes how to force this. SHEET_COUNT is one way of doing
so.

True, there are no more DCPS licenses since V2.0 in 2001. But DCPS is a
layered product and must be installed separately from the operating system.

The tray selection problem is not for PCL purpose . It will be used for PS-printers.
I would like to send the tray selection through the print parameter in the print queue.

Do you have another solution other than dcps?

the program output is ansi-PS ??
this is copied to a device , spooled through a queue. So th soft.engineers dont have to worry about the hardware part. the users chooses the device for output.

This system has works for many years,
only , there are no longer Digital printers ,
and the (Tally)Genicom market is slowing down.
Now as a HP system integrator , I like to use HP printers , and TCPIP istead of LAT.

Printing through these (new) printers is fine, but because of the old DCPS version,
no tray selection is possible.

Also because not all HP printers works fine with PS printing (too slow or too many errors) , PCL printing would be an option.

So , all you folks,
can somebody help me out?

I misunderstood your reference to PCL printers as a question about the restriction on selecting trays when printing PCL files.

If you want the most control over printer features like tray selection, DCPS is the best solution compared to LPD or Telnet queues.

Now I understand. To be up-to-date you need DCPS V2.4, not DCPS V2.3.

I doubt you'll see much difference in performance between PostScript and PCL on today's printers.
