Adding DNS suffix search

Hi Folks,

We are currenlty in the midst of migration activities from one network to another. One of the activities will be impacting our DNS suffix sear order and we may have to include it on our VMS servers. Currently, we are not using this on the VMS servers:

FOO$ tcpip show name

BIND Resolver Parameters

Local domain: domain1.com

State: Started, Enabled

Domain: domain1.com
Retry: 4
Timeout: 4
Servers: pssm1dc001, pssm1dc002

Our question is: is it possible to modify the path without restarting the TCP/IP services? I've tested this on our test server using the command tcpip set name/system/path=... and it worked, but my concern is, what will be its effect on the current running processes? And do we need to restart our TCP/IP services?

This server is hosting an Oracle database. We are on OpenVMS v7.3-2, TCP/IP v5.4 ECO5.

Roose,

TCPIP SET CONF NAME...

will set the patch for the next restart, while

TCPIP SET NAME/SYSTEM/...

should do it immediately. I've changed the path and never experienced problems so far.

I've done the same many times with no problems encountered. Make sure you do both the SET CONF NAME and the SET NAME and make sure you use /SYSTEM.

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.
If you have closed some of those streams, you must "Reopen" them to "Submit points". (After which you can "Close" again)

Do not forget to explicitly activate "Submit points", or your effort gets lost again!!
