I have 2 x DS20E Alpha servers on network. Both are running Pathworks - one system is a copy of the other with the scsnode name and scssytemid changed on the 2nd one. Pathworks works fine on both until I shut down pathworks on one server and restarted it. Pc's connecting to this PC were unable to connect to this server until I stopped Pathworks on the other! Any ideas whats happening here?
Many Thanks
Robert
Robert,

since you cloned the second system from the first, you are probably using the same "computer name" in Pathworks. This will cause name/address collisions in the MS networking world, just like the scssystemid clash you had earlier.

You need to go into pathworks administration on the second node and reconfigure the computer name.

See the docs online at

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/73final/6555/6555pro_005.html#change_default_config

Duncan

Duncan,
here is the way i am setup
1. Run the license server: YES
2. Enable Timesource service: NO
3. Enable Alerter service: YES
3a. Alert user names: ADMINISTRATOR
4. Enable Netlogon service: YES
5. Advanced Server domain: BERTDOMAIN
6. Advanced Server role: PRIMARY
7. Advanced Server computer name: DAVE

so the computer name DAVE is correct
should the server role become BACKUP? or is PRIMARY OK?
the domain should be CHASDOMAIN - would this cause problems?

thanks
Robert
Robert,

it depends....

How is your other server set up, and how do you want this server to act? Will they be in the same domain or not?

See the guidelines for domain configuration options:-

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/6553/6553pro_contents.html#toc_chapter_5

This gives advice on single and multiple domain setups.

thanks
I would probably leave the 2nd server on a seperate domain as a primary with the name DAVE.
Still dosent explain my initial problem ?
I'll read the link to chapter 2 for further info
